Macron opposes increasing EU spending on loan for Ukraine

Paris, October 18, Federal Press. French President Emmanuel Macron said he is against increasing the cost of the loan for Kyiv. Ukraine needs to be allocated only $20 billion within the $50 billion loan agreed upon by the G7 countries, the politician believes.

Macron stressed that the funds should be used to rebuild the country and purchase weapons for the Ukrainian army.

In June, the G7 countries announced their intention to allocate $50 billion to Ukraine by the end of 2024, using profits from frozen Russian assets. According to Bloomberg, the US is ready to donate $20 billion in exchange for changing the duration of sanctions against Russia from six to 36 months.

Also in October, the World Bank approved a new fund to support Ukraine. Experts warn that Western aid could be cut due to funding shortfalls, stressing the importance of commitment from all involved.

As 360.ru previously reported, Emmanuel Macron noted that European leaders will have to reconsider their relations with Moscow in the future. This is necessary to establish peace on the entire continent.
