Lawyer Buinovsky: Popov's trial to continue in November
On November 30, the Tambov Garrison Military Court will continue the trial of the former commander of the 58th Army, Major General Ivan Popov. This was reported by TASS, citing the general's lawyer, Sergei Buinovsky.
The military court also said that the October 16 hearing of Popov and businessman Sergei Moiseyev was suspended because of an anonymous bomb threat. It later turned out that the bomb threat was false.
Popov is accused of stealing more than 17 thousand tons of rolled metal purchased by the military-civil administration of the Zaporizhia region for humanitarian aid in 2023.
According to investigators, he entered into a criminal conspiracy with Lieutenant General Oleg Tsokov and businessman Sergei Moiseyev. As a result, metal structures worth 114.5 million rubles were stolen.
