The State Duma approved a ban on childfree propaganda in the first reading

The bill banning propaganda without children was adopted by the State Duma deputies in the first reading. According to the Speaker of the House of Representatives Vyacheslav Volodin, the bill was supported by 388 deputies.

Eight existing federal laws were amended to include bans on “pedophilia, LGBT and transgender propaganda.”

"We continue to create a unified legal space to protect children, families and traditional values. It is important to protect citizens, especially young people, from being forced into a pro-life ideology via the Internet, media, films and advertising," wrote House of Representatives Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin.

Violations are punishable by a fine of up to 400,000 rubles. For individuals, up to 800,000 rubles for government employees and up to 5 million rubles for corporations.

"I emphasize that this law is specifically about banning propaganda about childbirth. The decision to have children should be made by a woman. It is her decision who to consult with. But reproductive issues should not be discussed in such a way as to force women to make a choice, as is currently practiced in the US and Europe," Mr. Volodin added.

Discussing the project in the State Duma, Mr. Volodin noted that the idea of childlessness came to Russia from the United States, which imposes "this." In this regard, he thought about men's toilets in Europe. "There are no more urinals in the men's toilet, they have been torn down. What happens at the end? Sodom and Gomorrah," he said.

In September, a bill was introduced to the State Duma to ban "propaganda of the ideology of childlessness" and "childless activism." One of the authors of the bill was the Speaker of the House of Representatives Vyacheslav Volodin. He was sure that women themselves can decide whether to have children or not.
