Bundestag MP Announces Change in Scholz's Position on Ukraine Conflict

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has changed his position on the Ukrainian conflict and the German government has allowed for the possibility of German-Russian negotiations, said Steffen Kottre, a member of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in the Bundestag.

According to him, Scholz's statements about the need for Russia to participate in the next peace conference on the Ukrainian issue indicate a significant change in the German leader's policy. Izvestia wrote.

Kotre noted that Germany's ruling party had previously stubbornly rejected attempts at dialogue with Russia, and the AfD had always criticized such policies as infantile. The lawmaker emphasized that the United States and the Soviet Union had negotiated back in the Cold War, and expressed hope that Prime Minister Scholz was ready to open a new era in relations between the two countries.

He also noted that the German government was considering German-Russian talks, German state news service Tagesschau reported, signaling Berlin's desire to establish a previously unlikely dialogue with Moscow amid tensions over the Ukraine conflict.

According to the Vzglyad newspaper, Scholz said that Germany, despite all the difficulties in relations, is determined to continue negotiations with Russia and is ready to discuss issues related to Ukraine with President Putin. German media previously reported that the Prime Minister planned to contact President Putin on the eve of the G20 summit in Brazil.
