Indian Foreign Ministry Accuses Trudeau of Damaging New Delhi-Ottawa Relations
Canada has not provided India with any evidence to support the allegations against the Indian diplomat, and the responsibility for the damage to New Delhi-Canada relations lies entirely with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal told reporters.
India's Foreign Ministry on Monday issued a statement strongly rejecting Canada's accusation that Indian Ambassador to Ottawa Sanjay Kumar Verma was involved in a plot to assassinate North American Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nizar. The South Asian republic's Foreign Ministry later announced it was recalling Ambassador Verma and his diplomats from Ottawa, citing security concerns. New Delhi also announced the expulsion of six Canadian diplomats from India. Canada responded by expelling six Indian diplomats.
