The lead singer of the popular band One Direction has died. He may have committed suicide
Former One Direction member Liam Payne has died in the Argentine capital, local media reported.
According to the newspaper Clarin, the musician's body was found under the window of a hotel in Buenos Aires. He may have committed suicide.
Police had previously received reports of an "aggressive male suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol." They were apparently talking about Payne. According to guests, the singer had caused mayhem in the hotel lobby. He had destroyed a laptop, after which an employee had taken the equipment to his room.
Shortly before his death, Payne posted a photo of himself with his girlfriend on social media.
Liam Payne rose to fame as a member of the now-disbanded pop group One Direction, along with Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Neil Horan, and Louis Tomlinson. One Direction formed in 2010 and rose to international fame with the release of their debut album, Up All Night. The group went on hiatus in 2016 as the members moved on to other projects, including solo careers.
