Expect a call from a “special investigator”: what will happen if your SNILS is found out by scammers

Could this be dangerous in the hands of scammers?

SNILS is used to identify citizens in the pension system and allows tracking the amount of savings on individual personal accounts and the length of service of their owners. Could it be dangerous in the hands of fraudsters?

"Theoretically, if a fraudster has information about your SNILS, he can try to hack your account on public services. However, two-factor authentication is usually used on portals, so attackers will do everything possible to find the verification code in the SMS," Natalia Prodanova, professor at the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, said in an interview with the publication. AiF.

To do this, fraudsters can use a variety of methods, but the most popular is a call from bank employees or law enforcement agencies.

- Probably everyone has received a call from an "investigator of a particularly important case." So don't worry if your SNILS number falls into the hands of scammers. "To commit an illegal act, you need at least a passport and a phone," he said.
