Cognac and vodka will become more expensive in Russia: how prices will change

Moscow, October 16, FederalPress. Prices for strong alcoholic beverages are rising in Russia. This is due to several reasons, including an increase in the consumption tax. The draft order of the Ministry of Finance has already been posted on the website of the Normative Law.

The price increase is due to increased production and logistics costs, rising excise taxes and inflation, and is aimed at combating illegal alcohol trade, reports Parliamentary Newspaper.

From January 1, 2025, the excise tax on alcohol with an alcohol content of over 18% will increase from 643 rubles per liter to 673 rubles. The bill submitted to the State Duma proposes to further increase this rate to 740 rubles per liter.

It is also noted that the current minimum prices set earlier cannot cover the costs of well-intentioned market participants, which gives unscrupulous producers a competitive advantage. Changes in the minimum purchase price of alcohol are also envisaged. 383 rubles for 0.5 liters of brandy and 527 rubles for cognac.

The minimum retail price for vodka in Russia is 349 rubles per half liter, for brandy – 472 rubles, and for cognac – 651 rubles.

Earlier, a narcologist said that people quickly became addicted to alcohol. The expert explained why severe intoxication occurs.
