"A Single Glitch." A Father of Many Children from the Urals Died Near Kursk — How His Wife Demanded "Coffin Payments." At First, They Denied Her

Dennis (the character's name has been changed in the article) was 33 years old. He was a happy father of two daughters, aged nine and six, and had just expanded his family seven months earlier. A long-awaited son was born. Dennis worked in a printing house and had a decent salary, but the head of the family dreamed of a big house and wanted only the best for his children. He signed the contract in June 2024 and entered service.

— My husband went to work, and a summons from the military registration and enlistment office arrived, saying that I needed to clarify the data (although in the end it turned out that I had not received anything). He underwent a medical examination and informed me of his departure date just a few days before. He said that he had decided to sign a contract and asked me to accept his decision. Of course, it was hard to accept, but I had no other choice. Plus, many of his friends signed contracts, but they all went to different departments." Polina, the wife of the deceased, said:

— On September 2, I took my eldest daughter to school and my youngest to kindergarten. I knew that the military might not respond for weeks, even months, but my heart felt that something was wrong. I called the hotline to find out the fighter’s status. Because he had not contacted me for two weeks. A few hours later, they called me again and said that he had died,” Polina says.

"After the funeral, I told my daughters that their father had passed away. There were a lot of tears. Now they seem to have progressed a little and are going to school and kindergarten again, but they constantly ask why this happened. I explain that this is life, especially where there is fighting, people die," said the soldier's wife.

"They hanged him on the spot where he died."

— According to the payment procedure, there is a condition that the said serviceman be in the Northern Military District. However, he was in the special operations area for two months before being transferred to the Kursk Region. In addition, the notice states that the husband died in the line of duty during a military operation and that his death was related to his military service. And they hanged him where he died, and nothing was said about it." The widow was outraged.

The conditions for receiving a one-time payment are listed on the website of the Department of Public Policy. It states that families of participants killed in special operations are entitled to 1.5 million rubles if the serviceman participated in the SVO, was wounded "while participating in a special operation" and lived in the Sverdlovsk region. However, the actual place of death is not specified.

— We are discussing social policy. Is this a mistake by one social security employee, a misinterpretation of a government decree, or do local documents need to be changed? This is madness. The fighters were sent from different directions, and all of them, of course, were from the Northern Military District. We will quickly solve your problem. The situation is unclear to me. A person who volunteered for the Northern Military District died in the Kursk Region, where the Northern Military District is located, and we do not pay with the indication of the place of death," Ivanov said.
