MTS to pay fine of three billion rubles due to tariff increase

The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has imposed a fine of 3 billion rubles on PJSC MTS for an unjustified increase in tariffs for mobile communications services, which affected more than 30 million subscribers. This was reported by the FAS press service. In addition to fines, operators are required to reduce tariffs for affected subscribers.

The FAS emphasized that “the increase is economically unjustified and infringes on the interests of consumers.” The agency also noted that MTS unfairly increased the service fee by 8% in April and May 2024, increasing the company's revenue at the expense of consumers.

The FAS added that this is the first case of actions to seize erroneously received income and transfer it to the budget. However, according to the agency's representatives, this decision will prevent such practices among telecom operators.

Company representatives said they were studying the documents received from the FAS. A decision on further actions, including possible problems, would be made based on the results of the assessment.

Earlier it was reported that MTS had revised its tariffs for services over the past six months. Prices for home Internet have doubled, and prices for mobile communications have also changed.
