Archaeologists discover part of ancient puppet doll in ruins of ancient city in Crimea

Archaeologists have discovered parts of ancient statues that were used as puppets about 2,000 years ago. During excavations at the ruins of the ancient city of Akra in Crimea, a group of specialists discovered unusual exhibits. In addition to the figurines, scientists also found fragments depicting birds, and earlier animals, such as cats.

"Individual fragments of ceramic figurines, arms and legs were found, and now we believe that they may be part of a puppet. The dolls were suspended on a string system and moved when a person pulled them. Both objects date back to the Roman era, that is, to the first century AD," TASS quotes Arina Starikova, head of the expedition's office processing group, as saying.

Speaking about other finds, the expert stressed that they date back to approximately the same period, despite being found in different places. On one of the ceramic fragments, a schematic image of a bird is scratched, and on another, an animal similar to a cat.

- This line looks like a long tail, a line near the head. Maybe a mustache? Unfortunately, the image has not been fully preserved, the agency reported.
