Why drivers of old cars face a fine

Experts from the publication "Naavtotrasse" warned Russian drivers that driving old cars could result in fines from the State Traffic Inspectorate, reports IA DEITA.RU.

Law enforcement officials have become more active in monitoring older vehicles, as cars with high mileage often have technical defects that result in them being banned from use.

Drivers of these vehicles are encouraged to maintain their vehicles in good technical condition, but are not required to have frequent maintenance or to have reference documents. Maintenance documents may be required when driving abroad, working as a taxi driver, registering changes or changing ownership.

However, patrol officers have the right to check vehicles during stops. If you notice a breakdown, defect, lack of LED lamps in the optics, a non-working ABS system or other discrepancies, the driver will be fined 500 rubles or the vehicle registration will be cancelled in the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate. You will also need to send the vehicle for a temporary technical inspection.

In addition, drivers of older cars are tested to determine the type of license they have, including whether they are allowed to drive a manual transmission. In case of violation, if the license indicates "AT" (automatic transmission), a larger fine is imposed - from 5 to 15 thousand rubles.
