Extremism under the guise of faith: Kuban resident detained for participation in religious sect
Operational support for criminal cases is provided by employees of the FSB of the Russian Federation for Krasnodar Krai and regional departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to the investigation, from July 2020 to February 2022, the defendant from the Vyselkovsky district took part in meetings, ceremonies and training events to continue the activities and functions of the religious group "Jehovah's Witnesses"*. The suspect is a person who actively participated in the local cell of the banned organization and spread its ideology.
Operational support in criminal cases is provided by employees of the Regional Directorate of the FSB of Russia and the Special Investigation Center of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region. Currently, investigative measures are being carried out to establish all the circumstances of the crime, the regional press service of the Investigative Committee reported.
*In 2017, by decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, the organization’s activities were recognized as extremist and banned in the country.
Let us recall that the 66-year-old local resident was previously a member of the local extremist religious group Jehovah's Witnesses* in the city of Avinsk. According to the investigation, from 2017 to 2020, he used videoconferencing technology and participated in religious meetings, ceremonies and educational events.
