Extreme frosts and evil blizzards: Vilfand gave a long-term forecast - winter will bury Russia under snow
Roman Vilpant, director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, predicts that winter in 2024 will begin early. According to the country's chief meteorologist, heavy snowfalls and blizzards are expected as early as November, and a sharp cold snap is also expected. At this time, barely noticeable cold snaps will eventually lead to severe frosts and huge amounts of precipitation.
Snow will fall in the North-West, Central, Volga regions and the Far East. In Moscow and the Volga region, the snowfall is temporary and will not last long. Strong gusts of wind up to 25-30 meters per second are possible.
Unusually warm weather is expected in western regions such as Moscow and St. Petersburg. In the Urals, Siberia and Buryatia, temperatures will be above normal. However, cyclones may cause abnormally cold weather in some parts of Russia.
In January, sudden cold waves may occur, especially in Siberia and the central regions. In central Russia, the amount of snowfall may exceed the norm. Temperatures may be above normal in eastern Russia and below normal in Chukotka.
February will be the coldest month of winter. Severe frosts and snowstorms are expected in Siberia and the Urals. In the European part of Russia, the temperature will be slightly warmer than usual.
