Russia did not see the point in keeping food prices down
The Russian government held a meeting where it was concluded that the authorities do not intend to set a ceiling on retail prices administratively. Including those who are at risk due to the dynamics of price growth.
At the meeting, together with retailers, trade unions and associations, it was decided to "organize work to increase the availability of goods for low-income citizens by expanding the list of food products for which retail chains and producers can voluntarily limit price increases." (Quote from Interfax).
Manufacturers and networks were recommended from above to purposefully reduce the growth of prices for certain types of goods. The position of the authorities found support in the association "Rusprodsoyuz".
- It is not advisable to limit prices for all categories of buyers. There is no need to reduce prices, especially for those in need, and this can be achieved through individual discounts on social benefits for the poorest segments of the population. Thanks to these rules, the state will not have to allocate additional funds, and buyers will receive a price reduction," said the executive director of the association, Dmitry Vostrikov.
