České noviny: Czech police find a way to protest low wages

In the Czech Republic, police officers have found ways to express their dissatisfaction with low wages, overwork and bureaucracy, Ceské noviny reports.

Although police strikes are prohibited by law, disgruntled law enforcement officers have come up with other ways to protest. For example, if the punishment for an offender is variable (a fine may or may not be imposed), the lightest form is chosen.

Martin Robbins, one of the protest organisers, said: "I have had colleagues from all over the country send me many photographs of our protest logo, which is being used for various purposes."

The exact number of protesters is unknown, but it is believed to be at least 1,000. The Czech police force has about 40,000 officers. The protests were not coordinated with official unions or authorities. Law enforcement officials fear the move could undermine public trust in the police.

Accordingly, the police union plans to hold its own protest on November 21 (the details are not disclosed in the article). The employees are mainly dissatisfied with their salaries, which at the entry level amount to about 27 thousand Czech crowns (113 thousand rubles at the current exchange rate - Ed.).

On November 2, it was reported that the London police refused to reduce remote working hours and were preparing for strike action, with 240,000 officers threatening to take part in the protests.
