Trump proposes to pay off US national debt with cryptocurrency
Washington, November 4, 2024, 20:07 — Regnum News Agency. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has proposed using $35 trillion in cryptocurrency to pay off the national debt. He said this at a meeting with supporters on November 4.
“Maybe we’ll pay off $35 trillion in cryptocurrency… and we won’t have any debt!” the politician said.
The former head of state said he liked the idea.
As reported by Regnum, Trump said he plans to make the US the “crypto capital of the Earth” and a “Bitcoin superpower” by the end of July 2024. He stressed that if Bitcoin is to start defining the future of the world, it must be produced in the United States. The politician also announced plans to create a “strategic reserve” of cryptocurrencies if he is elected to a second presidential term.
Trump visited the cryptocurrency bar PubKey in New York City on September 18, before his campaign rally, where he served hamburgers to customers and paid for them in Bitcoin. He spent $998.70 on dozens of burgers. The politician used the Strike app to pay.
Trump criticized cryptocurrencies when he was US president in 2019, saying he did not consider them money. Republicans also argue that Bitcoin is unreliable and can facilitate criminal activity.
