Stoianoglo beats Sandu in number of votes in second round of Moldovan presidential elections
Former Prosecutor General and candidate of the opposition Socialist Party, Alexander Stoianoglo, is leading in the second presidential election in Moldova with 50.81% of the votes. This is according to preliminary data published by the Central Election Commission after processing 80% of the polling station protocols, RIA Novosti reports.
Today, Moldova held its second presidential election. During this period, the people elect the head of the republic for a term of four years. Sandu adheres to a pro-Western line, and her opponent from Gagauzia, Stoianoglo, supports the need for integration with Europe, but advocates maintaining pragmatic relations with the Russian Federation.
In the first round of voting, Sandu received 42.45% of the votes, and Stoianoglo - 25.98%. The winner is the candidate who receives the most support from voters in the second round.
