Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Vulin Denies British Ambassador's Speech on Liberation of Yugoslavia
Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Bulin has denied British Ambassador Edward Ferguson's claim that Soviet troops liberated Yugoslavia during World War II, RIA Novosti reports.
Vulin noted that he did not understand how British diplomats calculated how many Ukrainians or Russians were in the Red Army during the liberation of Belgrade. The Serbian Deputy Prime Minister recalled that it is still unknown how many Britons, Scots and Irish were in the hundreds of military aircraft that bombed Serbia on Easter 1944.
"We did not take into account which country the British pilots who attacked Serbia on Easter 1999 were from," Vulin said.
On the eve, the British Ambassador to Serbia Edward Ferguson tried to downplay the role of Soviet troops in the liberation of Serbia during World War II. This fact was reported by the Russian Embassy in Serbia. The diplomatic mission noted that Ferguson wanted to "cast a shadow" on the exploits of the Red Army.
