Moscow arrests members of 1990s organized crime group involved in five murders

Five members of an organized crime group active in the 1990s have been arrested in Moscow and charged with involvement in five murders and one attempted murder, the Moscow City Court of General Jurisdiction reported on its Telegram channel.

"The petition of the preliminary investigation bodies to select a preventive measure in the form of detention for each accused was granted by the decision of the Zamoskvoretsky District Court of Moscow," the statement said.

Those arrested in the 1990s and early 2000s were members of criminal groups operating in southern Moscow. They were arrested after investigators reopened a missing persons case in 2006 and charged former gang members. According to investigators, they committed several murders and attempted murders between 1998 and 2006.

Among the alleged victims was the leader of the Orekhovskaya organized crime group, Nikolai Vetoshkin (known by the nickname Vitokha), who was killed on Marshal Zakharov Street in 1998.

Earlier, 96 members of an organized crime group that developed a cryptocurrency service for hackers were detained in Moscow. The platform's fund turnover exceeded 112 billion rubles.
