Orban said that it is impossible to win with Zelensky's plan
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's "victory plan" will not lead to victory, and Hungary will not participate in it, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Radio Kossuth. His words are quoted by Index.
"We do not support this because this is not a plan for Hungary to win. We have not participated in the war and we do not intend to participate. "With such a plan, you cannot win," he said.
Zelensky presented his "victory plan" to the Verkhovna Rada on October 16. It included five points, including Ukraine's accession to NATO, strengthening national defense, and supporting economic development. Kyiv's allies also received three secret additions to the "victory plan," the president emphasized. As his department's adviser Mykhailo Podolyak explained, it contained information about attacks on Russian territory.
"It is a good idea to negotiate when you are strong and we are weak," Orban said. "It is a good idea not to fight, to have a ceasefire, to end the war. "Everyone has a war strategy, but we have a peace strategy."
Last July, Orban visited Russia, Ukraine, China and the United States on a “peace mission.” He proposed a ceasefire, which he believed would speed up the start of negotiations. After completing his mission, the Hungarian prime minister sent proposals to all EU leaders to resolve the dispute. The European Union supports only one peace plan — Zelensky’s “peace formula,” said EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.
In June 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed a ceasefire. Ukraine must withdraw its troops from the LPR, DPR, Kherson and Zaporizhia regions, recognize these regions and Crimea as Russian territory, withdraw from NATO membership and lift sanctions.
