Cabinet of Ministers Bans Three Types of PET Packaging from September 2025
From September 1, 2025, the production and use of certain types of packaging materials that constitute waste that cannot be recycled or disposed of will be prohibited in Russia, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports.
Therefore, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) food bottles are prohibited, except when they are clear, blue, green, brown or white. Packaging with PVC labels is also prohibited, except for shrink-wrap labels and multilayer bottles.
The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade stated that this measure is aimed at reducing the use of non-recyclable packaging materials and switching to more environmentally friendly packaging.
Previously, chemists from Columbia University found that the average 1-liter plastic water bottle can contain about 240,000 plastic particles. They determined the content of nanoplastics — particles less than a micrometer long — in bottled water.
Before this, it became known that Russians want to ban throwing old clothes in the trash. The initiative was put forward by the Russian Ecological Operator. It is recommended to install separate containers and fandoms in your retail store to recycle these items.
