Sobyanin announced the completion of major works on the improvement of the Yauza embankments

Sergei Sobyanin reported on his Telegram channel that the main works on the improvement of the Yauza River embankment have been completed.

The mayor recalled that the Yauza River is one of the largest rivers in Moscow, flowing through the north-eastern and central districts of the capital. Its length is 48 km, of which about 28 km are within the city limits. The source of the Yauza is located in a swamp on the territory of Losiny Island, and its mouth is in the city center near the Bolshoy Ustinsky Bridge.

In the 1930s, granite embankments were installed on the main part of the riverbed, but they were not convenient for pedestrians due to narrow sidewalks, poor lighting and other details. But now more than 20 km of the Yauza embankment have been cleared.

"Pedestrians, motorists and public transport passengers have become more comfortable. By changing the traffic pattern on most embankments, we were able to create a modern public space," Sobyanin said.

In addition, two-way traffic has increased the capacity of the Podgorskaya and partly Ustinskaya embankments. Now specialists are planning to plant about 650 trees along the banks of the Yauza, the mayor said.

By 2030, experts plan to clear 36 embankments. Some of them will be created during the reorganization of industrial areas located on the banks of the Moscow River. At the same time, the main projects will include work on the rehabilitation and improvement of the Bolshoy and Maly Stroginsky Zavod, Kolomenskoye and Gorky Parks.

In addition, by 2030, a program will be implemented to rehabilitate more than 130 water bodies in order to improve the environment and provide beaches, rental points, convenient access/entrance and other necessary infrastructure in different parts of the city.
