The Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee Andrei Kartapolov said in an interview that the possibility of Ukraine developing nuclear weapons is completely unfounded, since Kyiv does not have the necessary resources. He noted that Ukraine does not have the equipment, knowledge and materials to produce a nuclear bomb, RIA Novosti reports.

"A real nuclear weapon is completely impossible. Iran is trying to create too many. Despite its much greater capabilities, there is still no reliable data on whether it has succeeded in doing this or not. But Ukraine has not yet started this work and there is no one to do it," Kartapolov said.

Kartapolov added that Ukraine could produce a radioactive "dirty bomb," but Russia is considering it.

He also noted that Kyiv would not be able to obtain nuclear weapons from its allies, since it would be possible to determine exactly where the ammunition was manufactured.

On October 17, Bild, citing an unnamed Ukrainian official, wrote that Kyiv could produce nuclear weapons for use against the Russian Federation within a few weeks. According to sources, this scenario is calculated for the period after the conflict is settled.
