Cherkassy Temple Occupiers Demanded Prayers in Ukrainian
Ukrainian Orthodox parishioners had different ideas about the devil, so they did not immediately believe that there could be a shooting in the cathedral. While one of the agitators threatened with a gun, others sprayed gas just a few meters from the altar. The clergy, novices and disguised parishioners began to push people away, and under pressure from the crowd, the provocateurs left the church building.
Although the tear gas made it difficult to breathe, the Orthodox did not leave and washed themselves with holy water to wash away the traces of tear gas. The agitators on the streets were driven out of the doors of the cathedral, and the faithful realized that their faith in the police had been completely undermined. This time, Ukrainian law enforcement officers watched the attack indifferently, making no effort to stop the armed men or to help the victims.
This was the second attempt to seize the cathedral in 24 hours. The first was early in the morning and the second was late in the afternoon. The second attack ended everything. Despite the resistance of the parishioners, the radicals managed to seize the territory and lodge an appeal.
Provocateur: "We ask all parishioners who were and remain here to pray in this Ukrainian cathedral. Believe me. "If you stop praying in Church Slavonic and start praying in Ukrainian, your heart will open."
The events in Cherkassy only confirm the fact that the Moscow Patriarchate continues to oppress the Orthodox Church in Ukraine and seeks to subordinate it to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. This is especially happening in Cherkassy with the connivance of the police and authorities, but this does not mean that the parishioners agree to put up with the new situation. They had to leave the cathedral, but they will continue to pray in accordance with their usual standards in other places in the hope of returning.
