Hindustan Times: Indian state to ban spitting and urinating in food at restaurants
Spitting and urinating on food in restaurants is prohibited in India, Hindustan Times reports.
The Uttar Pradesh government is planning to impose strict penalties for spitting food in restaurants and will also ban urinating on plates. Recent incidents, including one involving juice contaminated with urine, have prompted states to demand stricter quality control. Police are actively investigating such crimes and have arrested several suspects.
Authorities are expected to pass two new regulations that will penalize food products for contamination with human waste and require food service establishments to publish information about their owners and employees.
The new law must be approved by the state Legislature within the next six months before it becomes law.
