Rio Tinto CEO Jacob Stausholm said: "We continue to strengthen our business by implementing safe production systems to ensure stable production at our Pilbara iron ore operations and gradually transitioning from our Australian bauxite mines. We are building on this and doing more across our global portfolio.
"We have completed key projects to achieve profitable organic growth. We expect to begin first production at our high-grade iron ore project in Simandou next year and first lithium at our Rincon start-up plant by the end of this year. Meanwhile, the Oyu Tolgoi underground mine continues to ramp up copper production.
“We announced the acquisition of Arcadium Lithium, which will combine our world-class lithium business with our leading aluminum and copper businesses to supply materials needed for the energy transition. This is consistent with our strategy and disciplined capital allocation to increase our share of high-growth, attractive markets at the right time in the cycle.
