The Russian State Duma has adopted in the first reading a bill to toughen penalties for armed rebellion
The State Duma has adopted in the first reading a bill toughening the punishment for armed rebellion up to life imprisonment. The document proposes to differentiate responsibility depending on the role and consequences of the rebel movement.
Organizing or leading an uprising is punishable by imprisonment for 15 to 20 years. Participation in a mutiny is punishable by imprisonment for 12 to 20 years. If the mutiny had serious consequences, life imprisonment is possible.
The bill also provides for the possibility of exemption from liability for voluntary assistance in preventing a rebellion.
