Politico: Arab Sheikhs Did Not Support EU Position on Ukraine
Moscow, October 15, FederalPress. Relations between the Persian Gulf countries and the European Union (EU) have become even more strained due to the conflict in Ukraine. This is reported by Politico.
According to the publication, the EU failed to convince Arab countries to make pro-Ukrainian commitments ahead of the upcoming summit in Brussels. The talks were expected to be a symbol of unity, but instead they focused on the different positions of the EU and Arab countries on the Ukrainian issue.
As noted in the article, in one of the proposed statements, the EU insisted on a formulation calling on all countries to stop supporting Russia. At the same time, the Gulf states called for a more neutral position, including an end to arms supplies to all parties to the conflict. The result of the discussion was a joint proposal to exclude this provision from the final document entirely.
The language row highlights the ongoing difficulties the EU and its Western partners face in helping other countries prop up Kyiv and contain Russia.
Earlier it was reported that almost half of the territory occupied by Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region has already been liberated, said the commander of the Akhmat special forces, Apti Alaudinov.
