Iran suspends flights to Europe
Iran Air has suspended flights to Europe due to European sanctions. Iran Air was the only airline operating flights from Iran to European countries.
“Iranian Airlines is the only airline that has been flying from our country to Europe, and due to the new EU sanctions against Iranian airlines, no Iranian plane will fly to Europe in the future,” said Maksod Assadi Samani, director of the Iranian Airlines Association. (courtesy of ILNA)
Maqsoud Asadi Samani added that Iranian airlines' flights to Europe are in high demand among Iranian citizens. He also suggested that flights will continue via foreign airlines or connecting flights between Turkey and the UAE.
Yesterday (14 October), the European Union (EU) imposed sanctions on Iranian airlines Iran Air, Mahan Air and Saha Air. Four other legal entities and seven individuals were also subject to restrictions. The sanctions were imposed because the EU Council suspects Iran of transferring missiles and drones to Russia and Yemen's Houthi rebels.
