Talgar is a suburb of Almaty located in southern Kazakhstan. Kurishbekov won the city's mayoral election in June 2022.
The dismissal of the akim was followed by a high-profile murder of a teenager, committed in one of the shops in Talgar on the night of October 4. That day, an aggressive customer came to the local shop and a conflict with the employees began. There was also a 16-year-old teenager who came to the shop to meet his father.
After the conflict broke out, the visitor called his friends. All were armed with bladed weapons and firearms. Upon arrival, they attacked the boy, his father, and his uncle. The teenager died. “The mother was being held captive by two men when they killed her son. The mother begged him not to hit her son. My uncle was also stabbed in three places below the waist. The grandmother lost consciousness after being pushed aside. The boy’s father fought with two men and thought that they were the only ones with knives. But, unfortunately, they were all armed. After the murder, they also robbed stores,” the relatives of the deceased told TengriNews.
On October 12, the house of the deceased teenager caught fire. In connection with this, the boy's family was provided with security, including a 24-hour police watch.
The investigation of this incident was led directly by the Minister of Internal Affairs Yerzhan Sadenov, and officers of the National Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan were sent to Talgar. According to the Almaty Regional Prosecutor's Office, seven suspects were detained on suspicion of committing crimes. The court remanded them in custody for two months.
The father of the murdered man, Karzhaubay Nurimov, recorded a video the day before asking President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to take his family out of the Almaty region.
