Three people drifted for two months in the Sea of Okhotsk, only one survived: the story of the rescue by the "Angel". Video

In the Sea of Okhotsk, three men — Mikhail, Sergey Pichugin, and the latter's son Ilya — drifted for two months on the catamaran "Baikat". Two of them did not survive, and the third, Mikhail, was saved thanks to the fishing boat "Angel" that was sailing nearby. The families of the two victims accused the rescuers of failing to properly survey the sea. What happened to the men in the Sea of Okhotsk, how one survivor escaped, and whether a criminal case will be opened, is described in the URA.RU article.

Mikhail, his brother Sergey Pichugin and Sergey's 15-year-old son Ilya planned a year-long trip on a catamaran to see nature. They had warm clothes, flares (flaming beacons in the form of cardboard or ebonite covers), food, life jackets and 20 liters of drinking water.

According to Mikhail's wife, Ekaterina, the men set off for the Shantar Islands on August 4. Five days later, they parted ways with the group they met and headed to Sakhalin. There, Sergei's son, Ilya, happily called his mother, Natalya, on a satellite phone on August 9. After that, the travelers stopped communicating. Katherine said she had not heard from her husband for 66 days, but she still believed he was alive.

Mikhail said that the cause of the tragedy could have been the failure of the catamaran's engine. Because of this, the ship lost control.

How did Mikhail survive, what is known about his condition

The captain of the ship called Mikhail's wife Ekaterina at night. He said that Mikhail was alive and asked his mother to tell him about it. His condition was stable. He was able to see the team and pull the rope himself. In two months of drifting, Mikhail lost about half of his weight. I dropped from 100 kg to 50 kg. It is noted that not only food but also his large weight allowed the man to survive.

Now Mikhail, the only survivor of the journey, is receiving the medical care he needs on the fishing boat that rescued him. The man is in shock and will be transferred to Magadan for further treatment and recovery.

The search for the missing man began on August 14. Four aircraft, including three helicopters, took part in it. Later, the boat was discovered at sea by the crew of the motor ship "Angel" near the village of Ust-Khairuzovo in Kamchatka Krai.

The families of the three deceased expressed dissatisfaction with the rescue efforts, saying that the search was carried out negligently and that the waters of the Sea of Okhotsk were not properly explored. At the same time, the families of the deceased immediately asked for help as soon as they realized that they had lost contact with the travelers.

A criminal case has been opened under the article on violation of the rules for the operation of maritime transport in connection with the disaster in the Sea of Okhotsk, as a result of which two people died. The Far Eastern Transport Prosecutor's Office is investigating the incident and clarifying the circumstances of what happened on the ship, which was sailing from Cape Perovsk in Khabarovsk Krai to the Oka region on Sakhalin, the prosecutor's office reported. .
