Owners of apartments with utility meters warned about a trap in the receipt

Owners of apartment buildings may fall into the trap of unfair recalculation of consumed services.

This was warned by the ONF expert on housing and communal services Ilya Rybalchenko, reports IA DEITA.RU.

According to experts, the average household's utility bills may include an increased amount because neighbors have been using too many resources, such as hot water, one of the main items in utility payments.

According to experts, some apartments may actually have many more people living in them than are officially registered. This leads to a gap between consumption standards and the services actually consumed.

Rybalchenko wrote in the Parliamentary Newspaper that neighbors will pay according to the standard, based on the number of people registered in the apartment, even if there are no meters and there are fewer registered people than there actually are.

"But the meter in the basement of the building works regardless of what is written on the paper. Ultimately, payment for all resources used is distributed among all residents. Therefore, in addition to hacking the utility meter in the apartment, conscientious residents will also pay for hacking the general metering device," the expert explained.

He added that owners of apartments with utility meters should also understand that installing a meter in their home does not mean that they can be completely isolated from their neighbors. Ultimately, a recalculation occurs and payments for all resources are distributed among all residents.

"People who do not have an electricity meter in their apartment must pay only according to the standards. Therefore, if an unregistered person lives in the house, it is necessary to register him with the Ministry of Internal Affairs so that he is included in the payment receipt," he added.
