Sinologist on China's exercises near Taiwan: Not the last, but another Chinese warning
China's large-scale military exercises "Joint Swords 2024B" held near the coast of Taiwan are not the last and are another warning from China. The maneuvers are ceremonial or preventive in nature. Sinologist Yuri Tavrovsky, vice president of the Russian-Chinese Friendship Association, told Life.ru:
"In fact, this training began after Nancy Pelosi's famous visit to Taiwan. And the Chinese were the first to use this technique, conducting exercises around Taiwan, which effectively led to a blockade of the island. And it turned out to be a very effective method. And in Taiwan, he felt vulnerable," the expert says.
According to him, the exercises were a response to a new statement by Taiwanese leader Lai Qingde that Taiwan and China are different political entities. In response, China is again responding with "proven weapons."
"In any case, such military preparation is better than real military actions. So this is not the first and not the last. And there will probably be no catastrophic consequences," the sinologist concluded.
Recall that China initially launched large-scale military exercises "Joint Sword 2024B" near the coast of Taiwan. The operation involved naval, air, land and missile forces. In response, Taiwan convened an emergency meeting on national security. By now, Beijing has already announced the end of the exercises.
