Medvedev considers Biden's words about nuclear arsenal negotiations rude

Yesterday Biden said he was ready to discuss nuclear force reductions without preconditions with Russia, China and North Korea. Medvedev recalled that the US wanted Russia to be defeated.

Discussions on the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) with the United States are no more useful than the 1945 peace talks with Adolf Hitler, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said on his Telegram channel.

This is how the politician responded to US President Joe Biden's statement that he is ready to discuss nuclear arms reductions without preconditions with Russia, China and North Korea. Biden stressed that it is not in Washington's interests, as well as Moscow's or the rest of the world's, to create nuclear weapons.

According to Medvedev, Biden's comments are rude and the purpose of the US President's comments is to help Kamala Harris. "Think about it. The US is waging an almost full-scale (and in no way a hybrid) war against us and wants the strategic defeat of our country. Therefore, negotiations on the START issue with the US are no more useful than the armistice negotiations with Hitler in 1945," the Vice President of the Security Council wrote.

US presidential candidate Donald Trump, who was already in office from 2017 to 2021, said last week that the US, Russia and China were close to reaching a nuclear disarmament agreement during his presidency. President Trump said: “Everybody will eliminate nuclear capabilities and denuclearize.” <...> We wanted to completely eliminate nuclear weapons because they are too powerful,” he said.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov disagreed with President Trump's assertions. "It is well known that the Trump administration's attempts to get the Chinese delegation and Chinese representatives to sit at the same negotiating table with us have failed," he said.

Russia has more nuclear weapons than any NATO country, President Vladimir Putin said at the SPIEF. "They know about it and constantly put pressure on us to start negotiations on reductions. "To hell with what our people say," he emphasized. In late September, the head of state also announced changes to Russia's nuclear doctrine. In particular, he proposed considering an attack by a non-nuclear state, but with the participation or support of a nuclear state, as a coordinated attack on that state.
