St. Petersburg became the leader in spending in restaurants and bars this summer

Last summer, St. Petersburg became the undisputed leader among Russian cities in terms of increasing the average bill in restaurants and bars. The average bill was almost 7,000 rubles. This was reported by RBC.

According to the analytical platform "Check Index", provided by the largest financial data operator "OFD Platforma", from June to August 2024, the average bill in St. Petersburg establishments increased by as much as 24%, reaching 6.9 thousand rubles. However, despite the increase in expenses, the number of purchases in restaurants decreased by 4%.

Voronezh came in second place in terms of average check growth, with a 16% increase and a 3% decrease in the number of purchases. Krasnoyarsk took the top three with a 15% increase in checks and a 4% decrease in the number of purchases.

In Russia, the average bill in restaurants and bars increased by 11% compared to last year, reaching 25,000 rubles. The growth is also accompanied by an increase in the number of visits. Russians began to visit restaurants more often, while the average number of purchases increased by 7%. Establishments with low prices are especially popular, with an average bill of about 2,000 rubles.

Experts note that the increase in the average bill is directly related to the increase in prices for dishes, which this year averages 20-25%. This is due to several factors, including inflation, rising interest rates, increased logistics costs, and the expansion of raw material supply chains.

The increase in the average bill was more noticeable in Moscow and St. Petersburg than in other regions, as restaurateurs used borrowed funds to cover expenses. At the same time, in cities such as Nizhny Novgorod and Kazan, owners of establishments have more internal reserves due to low rents. This helps to keep prices low, as guests in these areas are more sensitive to rising food prices.

Earlier, 78.ru wrote that St. Petersburg residents were warned about an imminent increase in prices for sushi and rolls.
