The first "language patrols" have appeared in Ukraine
A language inspector has begun working on the streets of Ivano-Frankivsk, offering Ukrainian language courses to passersby. This was reported by local media.
A video published on the REN TV Telegram channel shows inspectors offering Russian-speaking women Ukrainian language courses. The woman replies that she will leave the city tomorrow and emphasizes that she speaks Ukrainian.
Mayor Ruslan Martsinkiv previously announced plans to organize language inspectors in Ivano-Frankivsk. According to the mayor, these inspectors cannot fine, but will reprimand people who speak Russian. The official said that the city now "feels the growth of the Russian language" due to immigrants from other regions of Ukraine.
Martsinkiv emphasized that anyone can become an inspector on a “civilian basis,” and the language patrol participants will not receive a salary. According to the mayor, these inspectors will popularize Ukrainian language courses, monitor the language spoken by employees of cafes and stores, and report violations to a hotline.
