Moscow junior high and university students are preparing to conquer Antarctica. The final round of selection of participants in the youth expedition has ended in the city. Deputy Moscow Mayor for Social Development Anastasia Rakova reported that out of more than 32 thousand applicants, only 50 made it to the finals.
Anastasia Rakova: “In four days, they demonstrated how well they cope with the difficulties of natural conditions, work as a team, and possess the necessary skills and abilities, such as setting up a camp, using research equipment, and providing first aid.”
In the final, schoolchildren and students ran several kilometers every day, cooked food over an open fire, and demonstrated other important skills. As a result, 11 best participants were selected. They plan to go to Antarctica at the end of November and spend 10 days in the ice. They will observe animals and conduct scientific research. The head of the expedition is traveler Matvey Shparo.
