Russia and Indonesia begin first-ever naval exercises
The Russian and Indonesian navies have launched their first-ever joint exercises, Orruda 2024, in Surabaya, RIA Novosti reports.
The opening ceremony was attended by the commander of the Primorskaya Flotilla, which includes various units of the Indonesian Navy and the Pacific Fleet, Rear Admiral Alexey Sysuyev. The Indonesian side presented Russia with a cap with the emblem of the Russian Navy and a commemorative coin. Representatives of the Pacific Fleet presented Russian chocolates and souvenirs dedicated to the history of the Russian Navy.
"Military cooperation is a natural part of our relations," said Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Sergei Tolchenov. "I am especially pleased to know that our two navies have very deep and serious relations," he stressed.
According to him, the naval training will be aimed at confirming contact and friendship between people.
Earlier, the Caspian Flotilla practiced floating minesweeping, artillery fire and missile strikes during the Okean-2024 exercises. The event was attended by the crews of the missile ship Dagestan and the small artillery ships Astrakhan and Volgodonsk.
