MPs Want to Ban Selling Lighters to Children
Violations entail fines ranging from 60,000 to 600,000 rubles.
"The State Duma will soon consider a bill on fines for selling lighters, refillable canisters and other potentially dangerous gas-containing products to children," said Vyacheslav Volodin, speaker of the lower house of parliament, Interfax reports. According to the document, individuals will be fined up to 60,000 rubles, officials up to 300,000, and legal entities up to 600,000 rubles.
As Volodin noted, citing investigators' data, since 2016, more than 800 minors have died from drug use involving these items. There are cases of children using these products in "dangerous games", which can also lead to a threat to life and health, unintentional arson and other tragic consequences, the State Duma Chairman added.
