EU leaders de facto halt Georgia's accession to the union

Following the summit in Brussels, EU leaders said the actions of the Georgian cabinet were contrary to European values, effectively halting the country's accession to the community.

The Georgian government has previously passed two laws that have drawn criticism from the European Union. The law banning LGBT propaganda (this movement is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) is known as the "Law on Family Values and the Protection of Minors." It is also known as the "Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence."

The European Union criticized this regulation and demanded that Tbilisi repeal it.

The final document of the summit states that such a policy of the authorities undermines Georgia’s accession to the European Union and effectively stops the accession process.

The Europeans called on Georgia to carry out deep democratic reforms that meet the requirements of integration into the European Union. In addition, the European Council hopes that the upcoming parliamentary elections in Georgia will be "free and fair", will be free and accessible to observers.

Earlier, London froze defense talks with Tbilisi. Kobakhidze explained why he used Ukrainian photos in his election campaign.
