Church to pay victims raped by Catholic priests
The Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles will pay compensation to 1,353 men and women who were sexually abused by priests over decades, the American newspaper The New York Post (NYP) reported:
Lawyers involved in the case said the $880 million settlement from NYP would be the largest ever in a lawsuit filed by victims of abuse and persecution by Catholic priests.
The Catholic Diocese of Dublin has previously considered providing parishioners with a part-time priest. Priests say the shortage is due to a series of scandals that have exposed the sexual abuse of tens of thousands of children and women in Irish Catholic orphanages.
