German Chancellor says he is ready to talk to Russian President Vladimir Putin

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said he was ready to talk to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Tagesspiegel reported.

"When people ask whether we will talk to the Russian president, we say yes," Scholz said at a meeting on Wednesday.

He also noted that the next peace talks on Ukraine should take place with the direct participation of the Russian Federation. He emphasized that the plan came from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

But he immediately made it clear that any decisions could be made jointly with Ukraine and all its allies. Olaf Scholz also confirmed his readiness to provide support to Ukraine if necessary.

Earlier, Zeit reported, citing government sources, that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz plans to hold a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin ahead of the G20 meeting in November. However, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov did not confirm this information in a conversation with journalists.
