Russian Olympic Committee Chairman Stanislav Pozdnyakov Resigns

"The geopolitical challenges facing our country require us to optimize and centralize the management of key areas of activity, including high-performance sports. This should ensure the most effective results with adequate funding for the creation and practical implementation of new forms of high-level sports. The role of the state is more important today than ever before, since there is competition and high-quality conditions for the development of future generations of strong and competitive athletes. "Changes in the leader and the team," Pozdnyakov said in a statement published on his official website. - In this regard, I am confident that the ROC Executive Committee will support my proposal and set the date of its next meeting for November 7. Until the early elections of the new leadership of the Russian Olympic Committee are held at the Olympic Congress, the head of the organization, the Executive Committee and the ROC bodies will continue to fulfill all their duties."

Stanislav Pozdnyakov has achieved outstanding achievements in the field of sports. In addition to four Olympic gold medals, he has 10 victories at the World Championships and 13 victories at the European Championships. These top medals were won in both individual and team tournaments. Moreover, he has won numerous awards at major competitions. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the International Fencing Federation.

After finishing his career, Pozdnyakov was a deputy of the Council of People's Deputies of the Novosibirsk Region, and in the army he received the rank of colonel of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Possessing knowledge and experience in professional sports, he served as the head coach of the Russian national team, held leadership positions in the Russian Fencing Federation and the European Fencing Federation. In 2016, he was elected First Deputy Prime Minister of the ROC and headed our sports delegation at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang in 2018. Pozdnyakov was elected to the post of Chairman of the Russian Orthodox Church on May 29, 2018.

Since then, the capabilities of the Scientific and Innovation Center have been used to the maximum extent possible to implement various programs in the field of professional sports, youth sports, and the fight against doping.
