The EU has called for putting pressure on Russia with new sanctions: “It will force us to sit down at the negotiating table”

Moscow, October 15, FederalPress. It is unlikely that Russia will agree to a ceasefire under pressure. This was stated by the head of the EU Foreign Policy Service Josep Borrell at a press conference after a meeting of EU foreign ministers.

At the same time, he stressed the need to strengthen restrictive measures against Russia and increase the scale of military aid to Ukraine. The head of European diplomacy also said: "Do not confuse peace in Ukraine with the surrender of Kyiv."

In his speech, Josep Borrell noted that the measures taken by Russia to overcome the sanctions pressure have proven to be very effective.

Earlier, the head of the EU foreign policy department spoke about the support of the EU countries for the Ukrainian army's offensive in the Kursk region. According to Borrell, the heads of the EU foreign policy departments did not come to a joint decision to lift restrictions on the use of Western weapons supplied to Ukraine for strikes on Russian territory.

He also stressed that each state will make the appropriate decisions independently.
