State Duma Deputy Zhuravlev: Childlessness Tax Should Not Exist in Modern Russia

In modern Russia, taxes on childlessness should not exist, believes the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee, Alexei Zhuravlev.

"In fact, in the Soviet Union there was a tax on childlessness. In those days, a tax on childlessness was stupid. I hope it will never be introduced in modern Russia," the deputy minister said in an interview, RIA Novosti reports.

In his opinion, there is no need to take everything to the point of absurdity, because to improve demographics, money is needed first and foremost, so that young families can look to the future without fear. The legislator noted that young parents should know that housing and well-paid work will be provided to them. In this case, he believes, there will be more children.

At the same time, Zhuravlev noted that there are pitfalls here too. According to him, in order to avoid creating a baby boom exclusively of Central Asians in Russia, it is necessary to first limit uncontrolled migration flows, and then support large families.

The deputy minister stated that an individual approach is needed so that benefits are received by Russians returning from abroad, and not by low-skilled labor migrants.

Earlier, the leader of the party "A Just Russia - For Truth" Sergei Mironov spoke in favor of the idea of introducing a tax on childlessness in Russia to check for extremism. This is how he commented on the statement of the director of the Institute of Social and Economic Research at the State University of Finance Alexei Zubets, who proposed his own tax rate of 30,000-40,000 rubles per month for families without children.

Meanwhile, speaking about the childlessness tax, MP Yana Lantratova stated that there is no need to blindly copy all Soviet practices. She believes that when it comes to demography, we need to fight the consequences, not the causes. The deputy director explained that introducing taxes will not solve the problem, but will only lead to a negative reaction from society.
