Tatar People's Party added to extremist register

In August last year, the Supreme Court of Tatarstan recognized the Tatar People's Party "Renaissance" as an extremist group and banned its activities in Russia. Members of the organization demanded the separation of the republic from Russia and the carrying out of terrorist attacks.

The open association Tatar People's Party "Renaissance" (Yakarysh Tatar Halyk Partiyase) has been included in the list of terrorists and extremists of Rosfinmonitoring. The updated list is posted on the agency's website.

The list also included members of the Freedom of Russia Legion (an organization recognized as terrorist and banned in Russia) Petr Krasko and Maxim Grigoriev.

In August last year, the Supreme Court of Tatarstan recognized the Movement for the Revival of the Tatar People's Party as an extremist group and banned its activities in Tatarstan.

As noted on the KazanFirst portal, members of this movement carried out underground separatist activities aimed at destabilizing the situation in the republic. In particular, they created a Telegram channel demanding that Tatarstan be separated from Russia and that terrorist acts be committed, including armed attacks on law enforcement officers and arson of government agencies and railway facilities.

"KazanFirst" named Irshat Khabiyev, who immigrated to the United States in 2019, as the leader of the "KazanFirst" movement. Since then, he has been leading the organization's activities abroad, the publication claims. According to the portal, Khabiyev was previously convicted in Russia on a number of charges, including racketeering, illegal arms trafficking, and document forgery. In Russia, the man was arrested in absentia and put on the wanted list.

Grigoriev and Krasko were arrested by the Tverskoy Court of Moscow in July for participating in the Russian Free Corps.
