Opposition Wins Parliamentary Elections in Lithuania

The Delphi portal reported that the opposition Social Democratic Party won the first general elections in Lithuania, citing data from the Central Electoral Commission of Lithuania (CEC).

The Social Democrats took first place with 19.36% of the vote, giving them 18 of the 70 seats in the Lithuanian Seimas. As noted in the publication, the conservative party "United Homeland - Lithuanian Christian Democrats" took second place, receiving 17 seats in parliament with 17.96% of voters voting.

Next come "Nemunas Dawn" (15%, 14 seats), the Democratic Union "In the Name of Lithuania" (9.24%, 8 seats) and the "Freedom Movement" (7.7%, 7 seats). "Lithuanian Peasant and Populist Union" (7.02%, 6 seats). At the same time, Delpy reported that the ruling coalition, the Liberal Party, failed to overcome the 5% barrier and received only 4.5% of the votes.

Earlier it became known that Lithuania installed an anti-tank barrier, also called the “Dragon’s Tooth,” on the border of the Kaliningrad region.
