California sheriff says he may have foiled Trump assassination attempt.
A Las Vegas resident tried to enter a presidential rally with a gun. He was detained by police.
Law enforcement officers in Coachella, California, arrested a man Saturday after he tried to enter a rally for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump using a counterfeit pass, according to Chad Bianco of the Riverside County Sheriff's Office.
The suspect was identified as Wham Miller, 49, of Las Vegas. He was stopped in his SUV at a checkpoint. A shotgun and a pistol with a high-capacity magazine were found in the vehicle.
The man was arrested on suspicion of illegal possession of a weapon. He was later released on bail. The sheriff's press service emphasized that the incident in no way affected the safety of Trump and other participants in the event.
