The Ministry of Emergency Situations calls on mushroom pickers to wear bright clothes and whistle into the forest. The department reminded people what rules to follow when picking mushrooms so as not to get lost.
This year, three people have already disappeared in the forest during a quiet hunt in the Samara Region. All were found, no casualties. In order not to add to the statistics, the Ministry of Emergency Situations recommends informing relatives about the route before going into the forest and taking a charged mobile phone with you, preferably with a SIM card from another operator. This depends on the area of application.
- In an unfamiliar forest, use a map, compass, visible landmarks or clearings to navigate. Leave notches in the tree to make it easier to find your way back, and always carry a knife, matches in a dry box and a watch in your pocket. Something as simple and banal as a whistle may not be very important in the forest. If you get lost, rescuers advise: loud noise will make the search much easier.
You should dress brightly because camouflage can prevent stray people from spotting you even at close range.
- Various sounds will help you reach people. The sound of a working tractor can be heard 3-4 km away, a dog barking - 2-3 km away, the sound of a passing train - 10 km away. "If you know for sure that they are looking for you, they can stay there, see the smoke and easily find the person," the experts explained.
To find your way, you must navigate by the sun or follow power lines or railroad tracks, and you also need sound signals.
- Don't try to take shortcuts. If you find yourself spinning, don't panic. This is normal. It's called "focusing on your right foot." One step is always shorter than the other. To maintain your intended direction, you need to choose clearly visible landmarks every 100-150 meters along the route, the Emergencies Ministry reported.
